The Coliseum Pool at The Resort At Pelican Hill in Newport Beach, California, is one of the most unique hotel pools in North America. Echoing design elements from Rome’s famous landmark, the perfectly circular Coliseum Pool is surrounded by classic architectural features including vaulted arches, corniced columns and an amphitheatre of terraced decks. This pool is one of the largest circular pools in the world, holding 380,000 gallons of saltwater. To give the pool its brilliant blue colour, the bottom of the pool was tiled with 1.1 million hand-cut glass mosaic tiles.

While there is no shortage of pools at the Sumberkima Hill Retreat in the mountains of North West Bali, the most spectacular one has to be the Lingga pool. This is the resort’s main pool and it overlooks the thickets and small farms of the village of Sumberkima, as well as the volcanoes of Java. The unique thermometer shape and the fact that it is cantilevered over the edge of a cliff, make it a spectacular entry on this list.

The tented camp at Capella Ubud in Bali has to be one of the most luxurious camp-style resorts we have ever seen! The resort’s main pool is called the Cistern as it was designed as a replica of the ancient rainwater reservoir that was discovered on the site during construction. The pool was built by hand out of marine grade steel plates that were formed into a zigzag pattern on the pool’s interior.
