Spring is on its way – bringing the Vancouver swimming pool season with it. But before you can enjoy the water you have to open your pool for the season. Now we know that can be a significant feat, which is why we have put together a list of steps necessary to open your Vancouver swimming pool.
What you need to do to open your Vancouver swimming pool for the season
1. Clean up
We suggest starting with the area around your Vancouver swimming pool, then moving on to the top of the pool cover. This order will prevent loose dirt and yard debris from dropping into your pool while you are opening it. Once you have finished your first round of cleaning, remove the pool cover and wash it with soap, water, and a soft brush. Finally, scrub the inside of your pool with a brush.
2. Swap plugs for hardware
Make sure that you remove the winter plugs in your pool. Once you have done this, you are ready to reinstall your pools ladder, slide, safety rails, and diving boards.
3. Check for issues
As you open your Vancouver swimming pool, make sure there is no damage to the liner, seals, or pump. If everything is in working order, check that the valves are open and the pump is primed, then turns it on, watching the gauge to ensure the correct pressure is maintained.
4. Top it up
If you emptied your Vancouver swimming pool for the offseason or if you notice its water level is low, it is time for a refill. You can do this with a hose, just make sure you stop when the water line reaches the middle of the skimmer. Once you have filled your pool, add the appropriate chemicals. Then let your pool run for twenty-four hours to mix up the water before checking for a balanced pH level and alkalinity. Continue this process until the water is balanced, then add sanitizer or other treatments.
The most important step to properly open your Vancouver swimming pool is…
While all the steps listed above are necessary, the most important step to take is giving your swimming pool a safety check. During this check, make sure that all safety gear is in place and in working order. If any safety gear is damaged or expired, ensure that it is replaced before letting anyone near the water.
